Mukhammadsodik Abdurakhmonov - MA Product Design
With a BSc in Civil Engineering and three years鈥 experience in industrial design, Mukhammadsodik wanted to develop his skills further.
He was attracted to study the MA in Product Design at Gray鈥檚 School of Art because 亚博体育官网 had high ratings in student satisfaction and employability. He was also impressed by the facilities at Gray鈥檚 and the school鈥檚 close links with industry.
For his MA degree project, Mukhammadsodik has designed a new electric bike called 鈥榳andrr鈥 that offers cyclists a better riding experience on all terrains, with better ergonomics and usability, that requires significantly less maintenance.
The 'wandrr' e-bike has a stylish, vintage design, that incorporates a natural fibre composite frame, an in-frame laptop case and a modular battery. It also uses pastel colours, comfortable geometry, and a tactile cockpit, to make a users ride effortless and fun again.
鈥淭raditionally cycling has many issues that many people have just accepted to be the usual part of the process, but this need not be the case. With well considered design, cycling can be made more comfortable and accessible."
鈥淚 was the only Product Design student in my MA cohort, so some of the seminars weren鈥檛 related to my major but it still opened my eyes to other creative disciplines. My course leader, Jon Pengelly, helped me a lot with my research and Head of 3D Design, Ben Durack, helped me with the design process, iterations and practical work. I am very grateful to all of their support.
鈥淎s a part of my degree journey, I joined the . They were lacking a car body designer for their concept car for Formula Student-2024. I managed to make three design iterations in collaboration with engineering undergraduates and we took part in the student competition which was great fun and offered me a taste of working as part of a team in product design.鈥
Looking forward Mukhammadsodik is keen to develop his MA project and has ambitions to bring his concept electric bike the 鈥榳andrr鈥 to market.
鈥淚鈥檓 keen to launch my project as a startup. I recognise it needs some more research and development to do this but I鈥檓 excited for the future and the potential of my product.鈥
